December 18, 2006 is application deadline for PCA/CNA classes starting on January 8

PCA:  January 8 to February 8, 2007

Graduation:  February 8, 2007

CNA:  February 12 to March 15, 2007

Spring 2007

CNA:   April 16 to May 17, 2007

Graduation:  May 17, 2007

 

Summer 2007

PCA:  June 11 to July 12, 2007

Graduation:  July 12, 2007

CNA:  July 16 to August 16, 2007

Graduation:  August 16, 2007

 

Tuition and fees

Non-refundable Application fee - $25 PCA Students - $50 CNA Students

Tuition - $675 PCA Students (Five weeks) - $1275 CNA Students (10 weeks)

Tuition covers all equipment and textbook which will belong to the student.  Students are required to supply their own white scrubs and white shoes. 

State and Federal background security checks - $89 for PCA and CNA students

Students need to get their own fingerprints taken and apply for the

Background check at the state trooper office

Our school number is 1407 for the fingerprint card

Reason for the check is PCA/CNA qualification

State of AK Certification Exam for CNA - $269

OPAG's Institutional Mission

To establish and maintain programs and services which improve the quality of life for all Alaskans through education, advocacy, and collaboration.

Target students

Persons who wish to work as personal care attendants and nurses' assistants require specialized training. This vocational training is not available at the high school or college level. CNAs need to pass state CNA exams in order to become recognized and receive state certification.

Those who enter this human service personal care field may or may not have completed high school education. This type of vocational training may serve as an introduction or stepping stone for those who wish to enter a health related profession.

Equipment

The equipment and supplies will be supplied by OPAG, at no additional cost to students.

Most of the heavy equipment for this training, such as hospital beds, will be available for OPAG’s trainees and instructors at the Anchorage Pioneer Home.

What you can expect after successful completion of training:
PCA new hires average $10-12 hour!
CNA new hires average $12-14 hour!

Description of facilities

OPAG is located on the third floor of the John Thomas Building, 325 E. 3rd Ave., Anchorage. OPAG also has access to first and fourth floor meeting rooms to schedule additional classes and graduation ceremony events, as needed.

Our facilities include instructor’s office,  lecture room, Lab/skills room, break room, computer lab and a large room for graduation events.

The Lab/Skills room is equipped with hospital beds, lifts, wheel chairs, etc.

Clinical training is planned to occur at one or more of the following: Anchorage Pioneers Home, Providence Horizon House and Alaska Native Medical Center.

Library and learning resources

OPAG is increasing our on site library holding for this training program; we will also use the resources of:

·         Anchorage Pioneer Home Library

·         UAA Library

·         Loussac Public Library

Educational philosophy & objectives

·         Learning is transmitted in classroom lectures as well as “on-the-job” training.

Minimum requirements for program completion and graduation

·         Satisfactory attendance

·         Satisfactory completion of exams

·         Completion of at least an eighth grade level of education

·         Ability to satisfactorily pass a basic Math and English test

·         Prospective students who are deficient in English will be required to enroll in ESL, English as a Second Language Classes, either before or during PCA and CNA training. (ESL classes are offered by OPAG)
